G'Day there, Bluegum.
You may have to procure(if you have not already) Volumes III, IV, V and VI of Bean's 'Official History of Australia in the First World War'to find out more.

Re: 31st Battalion AIF

The 31st must be one of the few battalion histories left to write.

Bluegum, if you access the unit histories of other battalions of the 8th Brigade such as the 30th Bn or Ron Austin's 29th it may give you an idea of what areas the battalion served in at least.
The 30th Battalion's history is one of my favourites and would recommend it if you get a chance to read it.

Regards
Andrew

Bluegum, I received an email from Alexander Fax Books in Canberra last week. They have some of the UQP reprints on sale now for a reasonable price. Check their website, via google. If not listed, give them a call, as they have only just come in.

Peter, you will appreciate the Bean volumes. They are an amazing source, and readable from cover to cover (it takes some time though!).

Re: 31st Battalion AIF

G'day All,
Just an update.
Had success in getting Bean, Purple and Gold, and Ellis, already had Black and Gold.
More importantly found out unit history being written by a lady from Ingham,Qld. and established a contact with a Battalion Newsletter.
Finally this battalion may be remembered for their efforts, in the words of LT Col FW Toll, "These men did splendid work"
Still appreciate any further info and will update future events.
