Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
Hi
Can you help-
Does anyone have trench maps of Hamel around July 1918, Villers-Bretonneux and Sailly-le-Sec/Sailly Laurette around April-May 1918?
Looking for them for 44th Bn history. I have The British Trench Map CD Rom, which is excellent, but a bit short on the above maps.
Regards

Re: Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
Yes Mate I do.
Its a Message Map No12 correct as 1-8-1918
It covers the Area ;
Hamel to Chipilly to Mericourt in the North.
Villers Bret Road towards Proyart in the south.
It has only German trenches and positions marked but no units are shown as I think it is unused.

Could you tell me where you picked up the trench maps CD? I tried awhile ago to get one without success.

Re: Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
Hi Steve
Could I possibly get a scanned image of your message map?
If so, my email address is [email protected]
Please advise when your book is near publication as I would like to purchase a copy.
Thanks
Neville
TRENCH MAP CD-ROM
I got a copy fo the British Trench Map CD-Rom from Naval and Military Press in the UK - not cheap!
Go to www.naval-military-press.com and look for CD-Roms. There are a few available - Western Front (the one that I have), Middle East and German maps.

Re: Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
I have a jpeg battle map of Hamel, which is a composite of the trenchmap and information about unit dispositions on 4th July, 1918. If this is of interest, I would be happy to email a copy.

Hello Robert
It would most certainly be of interest, thank you. My email address is as follows: [email protected]
The 44th unit history is coming along very well. I am writing about the lead up to Messines.

Re: Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
Today (Sunday 14 September 2003) I viewed a 1:10 000 scale map which was being read by the 35th Battalion's (AIF) QMS at Cachy, when a whiz-bang exploded in the doorway of his bunker and he copped a piece of shrapnel in the head. The map still has smears of blood on it from that incident 85 years ago. The map shows Villers-Bretonneux, Hamel, Sally-le=Sac and Amiens (towards the left hand side of the map).

Re: Trench Maps - Hamel & Villers-Bretonneux & Sailly-le-Sec
Nev,
Map is on its way.
I tried to make photo copies in a few places but none were good enough to send, so I sent the originals.
One is of the area you asked for the other, is a patrol map of I think an area in Flanders.
They are both made by gastneter and are not too good but you may be able to see more then me.
Can I have them back when your done.
