4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
One for Steve to answer. 2646 Dennis Mullins was in the 4th (Aust) Btn of the ICC and died of wounds on 3.11.17. A descendant would like to know if the ICC was involved in the Battle of Beersheba (and Mullins could have been wounded there), or is it more likely that he was wounded north of Beersheba at Tel el Khuweilfe on the 3 November? Any help appreciated.
Steve, you were saying that many miscreants/pests were sent to the ICC. One of our Wellington men fits that bill. He was Arthur Emery, and he was always getting in trouble when in the LH. They shuffled him off to the ICC, where he seems to have settled down. He was later KIA.

Re: 4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
Mate,
Yes, The Camel Brigade was involved in the Battle of Beersheba.
The Brigade was positioned to the left flank of the British Corps to cover some of the ground between Beersheba and Gaza.
The Brigade saw no action on the 31st Oct but did after moving up on the 1st Nov when it captured a hospital complete north of Beersheba.
On the 3rd Nov the 4th Anzac Bn moved into the line 1 mile south of Tel Khweilfe taking over a line made by the 7th Mounted Brigade and occupided by the Sherwood Forsters. The 17th and 18th companies were in the line and were shelled during the day.
There were two hit by shell fire and died of wounds they were Dennis Mullen and Robert Manuel.
Yes Emery was in a lot of trouble but mostly minor things so far. Are you aware of his Boer war service in CSqn NSWCB
I have a little on these men if you need it.

Re: 4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
PS,
My mistake I was looking at the wrong entery, the 4th Bn moved into the line on the 2nd Nov around 1230 and were in postion by 1440.
The war diary dosn't mention their deaths or wounding, there is only a mention of shell fire on the morning of the 3rd Nov during a change over of positions by the 15th NZ company (to the left of the 18th Company) and a british unit. The 15th NZ Company reported two men wounded by this shell fire, Pte's Malden and Woods. Possibly Manuel and Mullens were from the 18th Company.
Of cause this Bn was releived by the 3rd Anzac Bn two days later and after moving back to water went into the line at Ras El Nayb on the 5th Nov.
The 3rd Bn had more to do at Khuweilfe on the 5th and 6th Nov.

Re: 4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
Thanks very much, Steve, for the info on Mullens. I will pass your replies on. You will have solved the mystery for his descendant. I will check to see if we knew Emery was in the Boer War.

Re: 4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
Mate,
Can I ask if possible to get a photo of these men?
It dosn't have to be one from WWI but could be later.
Cheers

Re: 4th Btn Imperial Camel Corps
Steve, I don't believe we have a photo of Emery. I will pass on your request for a photo of Mullens to my contact, who can then chase it up with the enquirer. Graeme
