Edward St Clair Forbes 34th Battalion

One for you, Digger Dave. Gerard Lemaire and Yves Fohlen in France have supplied me with a photo of the above gentleman (or so we believe). Is he one of 'yours'? A very nice studio shot from the chest up.

Re: Edward St Clair Forbes 34th Battalion

Thanks for that Cobber.
Seems Lieut Forbes was AWL for about seven weeks between 27 August and 14 October 1918 and was court-martialled for it.
One of the original 34th Battalion men; reg number 429, and a then 19-year old engineer from Marrickville, Sydney.
I think his father may have died while he was away.
I may be interested in the near future of a copy of the image if available.
Thanking everybody once again.
Where did the image originate?

Hi Dave, Gerard Lemaire was shown it by a family at Bailleul who have it in an album. I can only assume Forbes may have been billeted in that area and left a copy with them. Yes, he did go AWL for a considerable time but his punishment seemed light - loss of seniority and a reprimand. Perhaps the death of his father was an extenuating circumstance (?). I have rung three Forbes in Chatswood but none are related.
