Rising Sun Badge

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which Australian unit in WW1 wore the rising sun badge with the crown removed and replaced with the head of the Sphinx of Egypt?

I have trawled the internet for hours and have yet to even find one web site with images of Australian ww1 badges.

Any help given in regard to answering my question will be very much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this. [sign in to see URL], England.

According to Australian Army Badges - The Rising Sun Badge by JK Cossum [1986] the badge was "Unofficial hat badge worn during WW1, supposedly by members of the 8th Light Horse Field Ambulance." I am definitely no expert on Rising Sun's but I believe it would be quite rare.

Re: Rising Sun Badge

Just out of interest, were you aware the 'Rising Sun' badge was not actually meant to be the rising sun. It was designed to represent a display of bayonets on a semi-circular board. I have a photo of the actual display it was based on but I'll have to hunt up which book it's in.

Happily on the sun or feel the rain
Without remembering how they who went
Ungrudgingly and spent
Their lives for us loved, too, the sun and rain?
