Liddington Force
Can anyone please help me out on this one?
Dad returned from the ME and before he was sent to NG he was with the Liddington Force.
I have not been able to find any reference to it at all.
So glad this section is here,it is most difficult getting Australian information from UK sites.
Regards
Dee

Re: Liddington Force
Hi Dee,
There are no officers named Liddington listed in the nominal roll as serving with the Australian forces. It appears he was back in Australia at the time he was posted to 'Liddington Force'. He deplaned in Melbourne on 25 February 1943 and the next entry he is posted to 6 Technical Maintenance Section at 'Bigilla' from 'Liddington Force' on 5 April 1943. There appears to be no further information about this posting. Most intriguing!
It seems highly unlikely.....but I suppose it is a possibility.....there appears to have been an officer named Liddington in the Indian Army who was in charge of a force that operated behind enemy lines in Burma. There is a story about him at the following link. (Your dad does not appear to have been awarded the Burma Star).
ETAILS&grid=&targetRule=10&xml=%2Fnews%2F2001%2F12%2F26%2Fdb2601.xml" rbtag2="rb-qdecode-href-en" rbcvt="1">http://www.portal.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?viewETAILS&grid=&targetRule=10&xml=%2Fnews%2F2001%2F12%2F26%2Fdb2601.xml
Perhaps it would be worth posting a link to his papers and getting a few people to have another look Dee? Perhaps worth an e-maiol to the AWM to ask about the unit?

Re: Liddington Force
Try typing Major Ian Liddington in Yahoo Dee. The story is at news.telegraph. I would definitely ask the AWM Research Centre if they have heard of 'Liddington Force'.
