I was so lucky to meet two local women, one is the caretaker of the church where the bodies were taken. The other one spoke perfect English. When I said I was visiting the grave of my uncle the response was 'Oh, is that Richard, why doesn't anyone come to see Peter'?    We were shown the church where the bodies were taken and the locals were adamant that we know that they were given a full burial service (Catholic). I do not know what religion Peter was but Dick was Catholic. They also took us out to where the plane crashed and showed us where the bodies were found. It was a very moving experience. nondisclosed_email@example.com (toniba)Thu, 25 Apr 2013 17:13:17 +0000 Re: Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams DFChttps://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3793,from=rss#post3793https://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3793,from=rss#post3793Richard Williams is my uncle. His widow, who had remarried soon after the war) died many years ago. His closest living relative is his sister who lives in the North Coast of NSW. I visited the grave in 2011 and have lots of photos. His sister also has them. His window's daughter (by her second husband) also has photos. I am happy to share the photos if you still want them, but know they are NOT for his widow and he had no children. contact toni.ba@bigpond.com nondisclosed_email@example.com (toniba)Thu, 25 Apr 2013 13:45:31 +0000 Re: Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams DFChttps://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3783,from=rss#post3783https://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3783,from=rss#post3783Hello Further to your email received today I have close up photos of the single grave honouring Wing Cmdr. The local teenagers could recite the date of the australian aircraft crash and they said they were taught about it by their grandparents who attended the funeral....in fact the whole village attended. nondisclosed_email@example.com (heather62)Sun, 28 Oct 2012 22:29:26 +0000 Re: Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams DFChttps://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3781,from=rss#post3781https://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3781,from=rss#post3781I have photos of the grave taken in 1987 but would love to see your photos...ref your enquiry my great-uncle Wing Cmdr Gordon (known as Peter) Panitz 404891 was the pilot and his war casualty record states he was flying acft number NT229. A little while back i put a request through for photos of graves in 3 seperate locations and recieved the images and the negs within a couple of months free of charge.    I do not know if the abscence of a charge is based on the persons relation to the deceased - the images where requested on behalf of my Grandmother and the soldiers graves where those of her 3 brothers. Hope this is useful. nondisclosed_email@example.com (davidclow)Fri, 12 Mar 2004 10:33:57 +0000 Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams DFChttps://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3420,from=rss#post3420https://banzacresearch.runboard.com/p3420,from=rss#post3420Would anyone in France (or England) be in a position to photograph the grave and headstone of two Australian RAAF airmen killed in World War Two and buried in the Bona Communal Cemetery in France. Bona is a village and commune in the Department of the Nievre, some 21 kilometres north-east of Nevers, the chief town of the department, and the most convenient centre. The village is situated on the main road from Nevers to St. Saulge. The cemetery is north of the village on the road to St. Benin-de-Bois. The joint grave of two airmen of the Royal Australian Air Force is north-east of the entrance. The two airmen are Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams DFC and Wing Commander Gordon Panitz. Williams was from Patonga on the New South Wales central coast and Panitz was from Southport on the Queensland Gold Coast. Both men are buried in a joint grave north-east of the entrance. The photograph is required for Flight Lieutenant Richard Sutton Williams's widow and family. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.nondisclosed_email@example.com (diggerdave)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 23:14:56 +0000
