Memories of War - Penrith

This morning the Memories of War website which contains the Penrith District
Honour Roll was officially launched at the Penrith RSL Club after the
Remembrance Day ceremony this morning. The website has been operational for
some time and in the past few months, we have added quite a few more
biographies. At this stage we are researching the soldiers from the
district who were killed during the war. However, if anyone has details of
a WW1 returned soldier from our area, I would love to hear from you.

The site can be viewed at:

I believe the late Bill O'Connell was involved in the Penrith project before his death. Bill was a great First AIF enthusiast and an expert on VC winners. He also had a wonderful private museum. Bill was a foundation committee member of the FFFAIF. A retired teacher, he went out for a walk and had a massive heart attack. He was only 56. Forum readers may be familiar with his work in finding the names of all the men of the platoon in the famous photo of the 29th (?) Btn before they went into battle in 1918.
