FFFAIF lectures

Would you like to hear three top military historians speak on WWI topics? Meet fellow WWI enthsusiasts and researchers? All for the measly some of $8, to cover the cost of refreshments? If so, forum members are invited to the Families and Friends of the First AIF lecture day to be held in Canberra on Saturday 21st February 2004. Ashley Ekins (AWM) will speak on 'Five myths of the Gallipoli campaign';, Peter Burness (AWM) will speak on a Western Front topic, whilst Bruce Scates (UNSW) will give a talk on post-war pilgrimages to the cemeteries on the Western Front. Time allowed for questions. This is the perfect excuse to visit Canberra and visit Archives, the AWM research centre and see the new G for George light and sound show. Other activites will be held for FFFAIF members (hmm, thinks. Must join!) Should be a top day. Kate will be there too! Don't delay - email me today!!

Re: FFFAIF lectures

We had a small but keen crowd of around 30 people at the FFFAIF lectures. Forum member Geoff S was there with some original Light Horse books and documents (Hi, Geoff!). Rob gave a very interesting talk on Chauvel's pre-war life and the moulding of his character. My talk was well recieved too. Supper was terrific. See you next year!!

A most enjoyable afternoon Graeme. Good to finally catch up with Geoff, even though we didn get right through his box of goodies. It was certainly worth the effort.

Re: FFFAIF lectures

The AGM of the FFFAIF was held in Dubbo on 30 October. Following the AGM at which the office bearers were re-elected, we had two guest speakers. Brian Bywater spoke on recruitment campaigns and the Cooee March. Ross St Claire spoke on his forthcoming Unit History of the 54th Battalion. Ross has finished the first draft and hopes to release in April 2005. Should be a great addition to WWI history. On Sunday a tour to the Bodangora and Wellington Memorials was held before lunch and people elaving for home. A great weekend.
